Capturing Unusual Newborn Moments with a Baby Boy and His Families’ Farm Piglet

Yes... this really did happen. I often ask parents if there is anything special they would like to include in their newborn photo session. Mostly, they want to include a stuffie or a blanket that was a gift from a family member. This particular sweet newborn baby boy was the newest member of a farm family, and that family raised pigs. I took a few photos of the infant boy lying on a blue blanket, then with grandpa's camouflage hat and a child's fishing rod.

The next thing I saw was, to say the least, a little shocking. Grandpa came walking into the room with a new baby piglet. It had just been born, and they wanted me to snap a photo of the piglet with the baby boy. I had never seen a piglet that had just arrived in this world, and it was something to see. Grandpa laid the piglet down on the blanket next to the little baby boy. I didn't know how to react, but I figured that if Mom, who was standing right beside me, thought it was okay, I should just start snapping.

It was definitely the most unusual newborn session I had ever done. The family thought the photos were great, and I had an amusing piglet story to tell!

Lessons learned: All families are different, and you might be surprised when you ask a client what they would like to include in their photos!
